Organized as a non-profit organization, ICISP
provides member institutions study abroad programs
for students, short-term cultural exchange
opportunities for faculty members, opportunities for
faculty to teach abroad for a semester in England,
curriculum development opportunities for faculty,
J-1 visa services, and more. ICISP seeks to be a
very active organization providing leadership in
international areas to its members institutions,
their faculty and students.
ICISP works closely with the Office of
International Studies and Programs of Western
Illinois University.
Each member institution identifies one ICISP
representative to represent the institution.
Quarterly meetings are held at Illinois State
University. ICISP representatives serve on a
committee to create and monitor new State-wide
initiatives.
As a State-wide consortium, ICISP works closely with
the
Illinois Community College Board and others
to maximize international opportunities for Illinois
community college faculty, staff, and students.
ICISP Philosophy:
We believe that institutions of higher education
have a responsibil ity
to support cultural diversity and global education
within the college community.
We believe that developing globally competent
individuals will contribute to improve understanding
and mutual respect among the peoples of the world.
We believe that all members of the college
community need to develop global competency* in
order to function as a global workforce.
We believe that professional development of all
college staff is an important vehicle for developing
globally competent individuals.
*Global competency has been defined as follows
by conferees at Educating for the Global Community:
A Framework for Community Colleges, "when a learner
is able to understand the connectedness of peoples
and systems, to have a general knowledge of history
and world events, to accept and copy with the
existence of different cultural values and
attitudes, and, indeed, to celebrate the richness
and benefits of this diversity."
